Toss Cam help

From blank roll to finished album.

Start here when you are setting up a Toss Cam film or helping a guest. The short version: create the film, test its QR code on a second phone, place the code where people will notice it, and download the finished photographs you want to keep.

Create a film

Open Create your film and give the event a clear name. Choose the occasion, the time when guests should stop taking photographs, the reveal choice, the number of shots on each guest camera, the guest capacity and the film look. Review whether the developed album should be available to guests and whether guests may download its photographs.

A host account is the safest way to keep films together and return to them from another device. You can sign in with an enabled provider or with email and password. If you create a film while signed in, it appears in your account. Treat a film’s private host link as a key: do not place it on the public QR card.

  • Use an event name guests will recognize at a glance.
  • Set the closing time after the last planned activity, not merely the formal end time.
  • Choose a small test event first if you have not used Toss Cam at the venue before.
  • Save the host link somewhere private even when the film is attached to your account.

Invite guests with the QR code or link

The film’s guest link is designed to be shared. Open the host view and use the QR or invitation controls. Guests scan the code with their phone camera, enter a display name and open the shared camera. They do not need a Toss Cam account, and the browser route works independently of the Android host app.

Print the QR code with strong contrast and leave clear space around it. Put a short instruction beside it, such as “Scan to take a few photos for our shared film.” Test the exact printed card from a normal standing or seated distance. Keep the text invitation link available as a fallback for a guest whose camera does not recognize the code.

The guest QR and invitation stop opening the camera after the event closes. That is intentional: an old card should not remain a permanent route for new uploads. Read the QR card placement guide for printing and table-layout advice.

Allow camera access

The first time a guest opens the camera, the browser asks for permission to use the phone camera. Choose Allow. Toss Cam needs that permission to show the live view and take a photograph; denying it leaves the browser unable to capture. If permission was denied earlier, open the browser’s site controls for tosscam.com and change Camera to Allow, then reload the guest page.

On Android, the setting is usually available from the icon beside the website address or under Settings → Apps → the browser → Permissions. Labels vary by device and browser. Close other apps that may be holding the camera, make sure the phone is not in an extreme battery-saving mode, and try the invitation again.

Guests can use the rear or front camera when the device exposes both. Camera hardware, focus speed and low-light quality still depend on the guest’s phone. Toss Cam does not add resolution that the device did not capture.

Understand guest capacity and shot limits

The guest capacity is the number of distinct people who can begin contributing to the film. The shot limit is the number of exposures available to each guest camera. They solve different planning problems. A 25-person film with 10 shots per person allows up to 25 contributors, each with a small roll. The host can choose a larger film or buy an available capacity add-on when more people need to join.

Limited exposures are deliberate. Tell guests that the number on the camera is a remaining-shot count, not a timer. A photograph that is successfully accepted uses an exposure. If the connection drops during an upload, wait for the page to show the result before taking the next photograph; repeatedly tapping can create confusion without making the network faster.

Choose a film look

The creation flow shows the same sample photograph through every available finish so the choice is visual. Original is the safest choice when faithful colour matters. Classic adds a restrained film character, Noir creates a black-and-white result, and Vivid gives colour and contrast more presence. The preview is a guide; the result still depends on the original light, exposure and phone camera.

The app’s voxel style applies to its interface, frames and icons. It does not voxelize captured photographs. Choose the shared look for the mood of the event, and use Original when you plan to edit downloaded copies later.

Close the camera and reveal the film

The camera-closing time controls when new guest photographs stop. The reveal controls when accepted photographs become visible in the album. Those moments can be different. A host may close capture at the end of a wedding and reveal at breakfast, or keep photographs visible during a casual gathering.

Before reveal, Toss Cam can show that photographs exist without exposing them. Depending on the chosen setting, the host can reveal immediately or wait for the scheduled time. Once an event has ended, the QR code cannot be used to resume shooting. If a date or time was entered incorrectly, use the available host controls before the event ends rather than relying on the old invitation afterward.

For examples and trade-offs, use the reveal timing field guide.

Share, review and download the album

After reveal, the host can review the shared roll and remove an individual photograph. Album availability and guest downloads follow the choices made for that film. When album sharing is off, guests should not expect the invitation link to act as a public gallery. When guest downloads are enabled, people with the album access link may save the photographs available to them.

Hosts should download important photographs and keep a separate backup. A Toss Cam album is a convenient shared experience, not the only copy of a life event. If you plan to edit, print or archive the images, download them before deleting the film or account.

Privacy, consent and photograph removal

Tell people that event photography is taking place and make the host identifiable. Do not place the invitation in a public feed when the event is private. Guests should photograph people respectfully and should not upload unlawful, exploitative, non-consensual or privacy-invasive material. Extra care is needed when children or people who do not wish to be photographed are present.

An album viewer can report a photograph. A host can remove one from the film. A person who needs help identifying or removing a contribution can contact the host or email hello@tosscam.com with the film code and enough detail to find it. Read the full Privacy notice, Terms and event-photo privacy checklist.

Free films, paid capacity and refunds

The smallest film is free. Larger guest capacities and available add-ons are one-time purchases for a specific film, not subscriptions. Website purchases use the checkout shown by Toss Cam; Android purchases use Google Play Billing. The final price and currency are shown before payment. Guests do not pay to scan a host’s invitation and contribute within that film’s limits.

If a purchase appears incomplete, do not purchase repeatedly. Return to the film or account and check its current capacity first. For a payment or refund question, email hello@tosscam.com from the host-account address and include the film code plus the Google Play order number or website transaction reference. Never email full card details.

Current public options are listed on the pricing page.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to check
The QR code does not scanIncrease light, flatten the card, clean the camera lens, step slightly farther back, or open the printed invitation link instead.
The film does not existCheck every character in the link or code. The link may be incomplete, or the film may have been deleted.
The event has endedThe invitation and camera are closed. Ask the host for the developed album link if the album is shared.
The camera is black or unavailableAllow camera permission for tosscam.com, close another camera app, reload the page and try the other phone camera.
A photograph is slow to finishKeep the page open and wait for the upload result. Move to a stronger Wi-Fi or mobile-data signal before taking another shot.
A guest cannot joinThe film may have reached its guest capacity or closed. The host can check capacity and eligible add-ons in the film controls.
A hidden photograph will not openThe reveal time may not have arrived, or the album may be restricted to the host. This is expected, not a loading failure.
Sign-in returns to the account screenUse the same email/provider that owns the film, allow the provider callback to finish, and retry without an in-app browser if it blocks the handoff.

Still stuck?

Email hello@tosscam.com. Include the phone model, Android or iOS version, browser name, what you expected, what happened, and the film code when relevant. A screenshot is useful, but remove private invitation or host tokens before posting it publicly.
